First year fellow bootcamp

We are proud to partner with Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Stanford-Packard Children’s Hospital, and All Children’s Hospital in Utah to host the Midwest location for a national simulation curriculum for first year fellows. This 3-day event in July includes nearly 40 fellows and over 20 faculty from institutions throughout the Midwest. It includes:

  • Brief clinical didactic sections
  • Skills sections using low- and high-fidelity simulations
  • Discussion sessions for obtaining consent, breaking bad news, and general challenges around the transition from resident to fellow.

It is an amazing weekend of learning from faculty from multiple hospitals, understanding different styles of management for acute situations, and developing key skills to help prepare fellows to enter into the clinical arena. The weekend includes a celebratory gathering at the home of one of the bootcamp directors – complete with great food, drinks, music, games, and camaraderie.

While our 2020 and 2021 events had to be hosted virtually, we returned to an in-person event in 2022 so that the fellows could come together again, learning from each other and establishing new relationships with people who will be their peers and PCCM colleagues for the rest of their careers!
